With any luck, you've just fixed the problem. Now, go to Advanced | WINS again, and enter the workgroup name that you noted earlier in the 'Workgroup' field. One thing I did run into in the past was conflicts between different versions of Samba (even within point releases) causing issues, which I'm thinking may be the root of the problem with 10.6.4 - or, more accurately, an issue with the libraries that smbd and nmbd were linked against in 10.6.4 vs. Nothing changed on its end and I started seeing the same problem on both the iMac and MBP right after 10.6.4 hit, so it's really looking like it's a 10.6.4 issue. I'll have to double-check when I get home to get the exact version of Samba that it's running, but it ran fine under 10.5 and 10.6.0-10.6.3.
